The Outer Banks is the setting for the new Warner Brothers film "Nights in Rodanthe" which opens in theaters nationwide on September 26, 2008. Based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks, and shot on location in the Hatteras Island village of Rodanthe, this dramatic feature starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere forever entwines one magical weekend into the lives of two people at the crossroads of their own personal struggles. Five Women: Studio Gallery of Elizabeth City
Art Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Mary Crutchfield has been painting with a group of Elizabeth City women (Margie Sawyer, Peggy West, Patricia Sterritt and Ricky Thornton) for the last 35 years. They also travel together, often painting on location and gaining inspiration for their work. Some of the members of the group have passed away over the years leaving a core group to carry on the creativity of what they call Studio Gallery of Elizabeth City. Despite having kept company for a number of years, each artist has their own style. They will be showcasing watercolors, water media, printmaking and acrylic painting with collage elements. An opening reception will be held on September 7 from 4-6 p.m. It is free and open to the public. The show hours are Mon-Fri 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call (252) 475-1500.
